Things you might like to know.

What do you actually do for a living?

I work for a company called Elevated Code (or Elevated Rails, depending on which version of our website you're looking at). I write software, mostly using Ruby on Rails, but also help on iPhone projects sometimes. I am not currently looking for outside work, but our company is available for hire, so if you'd like me to work on your project, you should talk to Mike.

How do I run a great code sprint?

The Calagator core team gave a presentation on this at the 2009 Open Source Bridge conference. You can look through our slides and notes online.

How do I get involved with this Portland tech scene I keep hearing so much about?

Go look through the events on Calagator and attend ones that sound interesting to you. If the group organizing the event has a mailing list, join it. Tell people you're interested in volunteering. Many projects and events are dependent on enthusiastic volunteers such as yourself, and in need of more hands to help out.

Can I meet with you to talk about how my project and Calagator might work together?

If you're interested in working with Calagator, the best thing to do is to join our mailing list, and come to a code sprint sometime. There probably isn't anything we could talk about that isn't better to handle through group discussion on the mailing list.

Are you available for [some other meeting or discussion]?

Probably not. I have a hard time scheduling meetings around all the other work I do, and I like "getting together to work on things" meetings over "talking about things" meetings. A better option is to suggest that we meet up at the Thursday hackathon or another activity we're both interested in.

Why are you taking a Twitter sabbatical?

I realized I wasn't having fun anymore.

Why don't you answer my messages and event invites on Facebook?

I need a Facebook account to test code for work, but it doesn't really fit how I like to communicate with people, so I don't spend very much personal time on the site. HowToFindMeOnline has a list of better ways to keep in touch.
